Here, I will share with you all about how acrylic papers are the best option. Acrylic Papers are easily available, cheap and portable. It is not necessary to apply gesso on acrylic papers as they are specifically made for it. If you are using any other kind of paper with a thin texture, then you have to apply gesso on it to protect the paper.

Step 1: Draw a picture
  • Select a picture which you want to paint.
  • Use a light shade of pencil to draw a base picture that will not be visible after painting.
Step 2: Applying colors
  • Grab some colour on your palette and mix a little amount of water if required with the colour.
  • Use a wet brush (remove extra water with the help of dry cloth) to apply the paint as thin layers on top of the selected areas of your picture.
  • You can also use an acrylic medium instead of water. Both Gloss and Matt acrylic mediums are available in the market.
  • Be gentle with your brush and choose lighter shades first and then go on with darker shades.
  • To obtain lighter colours, add water (if you use white colour for making your colours lighter it will become opaque)
  • Don’t forget to let each layer of paint dry before applying the next one: This allows your colours and touch to remain fresh and sharp.
  • You need to mix and blend some colours to get your perfect shade for your painting.
Step 3: Background
  • You can paint the background first instead of the main picture. It totally depends on the idea of an Artist.
  • Painting of background helps to unify the colours in your painting
  • Wait until the background is dry to add colors.
  • To make your coloured background homogeneous: use a wide, flexible paint brush and apply the paint as horizontal stripes.
